One man dead, others wounded, in Friday night gun violence in Richland County
A trio of overnight shootings Friday night and early Saturday morning leave death and injuries in their wake.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., a woman was shot in the leg after an argument with an acquaintance at Gonzales Gardens. Columbia police said Saturday night that the suspect in the shooting, Rick Anderson, was being sought and should be considered armed and dangerous.
Just after 7 p.m., deputies responded to the Hunter’s Way Apartments in the 300 block of Percival Road, where a male was found laying on the ground dead, according to Richland County Sheriff’s Department’s Lt. Curtis Wilson. The man had been shot multiple times in the upper body.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office identified the man Saturday as Paul Antonio Coleman, 21, of Autumn Oak Drive, Charlotte. He died at 7:57 p.m. at Palmetto Health Richland hospital, coroner Gary Watts said in a news release. An autopsy showed Coleman died as a result of a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Hours later , just after midnight, a fight spilled out of a club at 6432 Two Notch Road near Arcadia Lakes. The altercation spilled across the street into a shopping center parking lot, Wilson said, where multiple gunshots were fired. A victim was wounded in the lower body and taken by a friend to Providence Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Wilson said.
Richland County deputies continue to investigate both crimes. Anyone with information about any of these crimes is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
