A Mauldin man was sentenced to 77 months on conspiracy and weapons charges, U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said in a news release Monday.

Denis B.L. Kearney, 32, was sentenced to the Federal Bureau of Prisons for conspiracy to steal mail and for making a false statement to purchase a firearm, said Nettles, specifying that Kearney was part of a conspiracy to steal mail to make fake IDs, which were used to create counterfeit checks and fraudulent prescriptions.

Nettles added that Kearney used a false ID when buying a firearm, something he’s barred from owning or possessing because of multiple prior felony convictions.
