Following a tip from neighbors, drug agents raided an apartment at 250 Springtree Drive, in northeast Richland County, Tuesday and discovered methamphetamine being manufactured in the presence of twin 12-year-olds, Sheriff Leon Lott said in a news release.

“The children were immediately removed from the apartment and decontaminated,” and placed in the care of the Department of Social Services, Lott said.

Charles A Goff II, 37, and Jason M. Smith, 39, were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, unlawful conduct toward a child and manufacturing methamphetamine within a half-mile of a school, Joseph Keels Elementary School.

Goff and Smith were being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center late Tuesday.
