Sumter police seek help in solving man’s July slaying

Sumter investigators are requesting the public’s assistance to get more information into the shooting death of a 37-year-old man in July, officials said.

Tonyia McGirt, a police department spokeswoman, said Sumter officers responded to a residence located in the 100 block of Dixie Drive in Sumter at 1 a.m. on July 19 on a shots-fired call. When police officers arrived, McGirt said, they found Robert Darnell Jones, of 10 Dixie Drive, dead in front of the home.

McGirt said investigators are continuing to follow all leads regarding the shooting, but no arrests have been made.
