Man accused of beating his wife with piece of wood, poking her with machete
Sumter County deputies charged a man who allegedly beat his wife from Friday night into Saturday morning, at some points choking her to unconsciousness and also beating her with a piece of wood, officials said.
Braden Bunch, a sheriff’s office spokesman, said 27-year-old Spencer Kyle Osteen has been charged with first-degree criminal domestic violence and kidnapping in connection with the investigation.
Bunch said deputies responded to a residence in the 4100 block of South Lake Cherryvale Drive in Sumter on Saturday and located the victim who told deputies that she had been assaulted by Osteen throughout the night. The victim said her husband first choked her until she passed out and then struck her several times about the arm and face causing bruising and a busted lip.
After allegedly assaulting the victim Friday night, the victim told deputies poked her in the neck, stomach and arm with a machete Saturday morning, Bunch said. The victim then said Osteen struck her with a long piece of wood across the back, leaving a bruise.
Bunch said Osteen was taken into custody on Thursday following warrants that were issued the same day.
