Driver arrested after leading Columbia police on brief chase
A man accused of running a stop sign and leading Columbia police on a brief chase is in custody.
The incident happened around 10 a.m. Saturday, police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said, when a driver – driving a reportedly stolen car – ran a stop sign on Heidt Street.
A Columbia police officer initiated a traffic stop but the man did not comply, Timmons said.
Police followed the vehicle, which then crashed on Harden Street near the Drew Wellness Center.
The suspect fled from the vehicle, Timmons said, but was captured by police. No injuries were reported.
The driver, who was not yet identified, was taken into custody, Timmons said.
