Highway Patrol: Unborn baby died in Greenville wreck involving DUI

A woman was charged with felony DUI resulting in a fatality after the death of an unborn child following a wreck, the Highway Patrol said Monday.

Ashley Michelle Bridges, 23, was also charged with felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury, according to the Highway Patrol and jail records.

Bridges was driving south on Sulphur Springs Road near Watkins Road when she struck a Honda Accord in the rear at 6:50 p.m. Friday, Lance Cpl. David Jones said. The Accord, which was carrying a man and a pregnant female passenger, went left of center and was struck by an SUV and a jeep, the Highway Patrol said.

Both individuals in the Accord were transported to the hospital with severe injuries and it was determined that the unborn child died in the crash, Jones said.

The Highway Patrol’s Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate the collision, Jones said.
