Pedestrian killed in Saturday incident identified by Lexington County Coroner

A pedestrian that was stuck and killed on Saturday was identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

David John Thans, 46, was walking east on the eastbound side of Highway 6 near the intersection with Lexington Hills Parkway in Redbank at approximately 11:15 p.m. when he was struck by a pickup truck, Fisher said. She added that the Pelion resident was transported to a local hospital, where he died from injuries sustained in the accident.

The truck driver wasn’t injured and was wearing a seatbelt, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Fisher said an autopsy will be performed on Tuesday to determine the cause of death and her office, in addition to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, continues to investigate the accident.
