Elloree man charged in murder-for-hire plot

Orangeburg County deputies have charged an Elloree man they say attempted to initiate a murder-for-hire scheme against his girlfriend’s husband.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said 34-year-old Derrick Nelson Stone has been charged with solicitation to commit a felony in connection with the investigation.

Ravenell said on July 29, a 33-year-old Orangeburg County man reported threats being levied against him on social media from his estranged wife and her new boyfriend, Stone.

Investigators learned that Stone was allegedly going to pay a would-be hit man $2,500 as a down payment and then another $2,500 after the victim was dead, Ravenell said.

Stone’s bond was set for $25,000, Ravenell said.
