Richland County deputies charged a man with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his step-grandson while he was visiting his 2-month-old child early Thursday morning.
Sgt. Kevin Lawrence, a department spokesman, said deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 1700 block of Luster Lane near Morninghill Drive around 2 a.m. in reference to a stabbing.
When deputies arrived, Lawrence said they met with the victim who said he had come to the residence, which was his grandparents, to visit his 2-month-old child. That was when 44-year-old Vinson Thompson retrieved entered the home and saw the victim sitting in the dining room.
Lawrence said Thompson retrieved a knife from the kitchen and allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times in the upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for non life-threatening wounds.
Lawrence said Thompson was charged with attempted murder and taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where he is being held.
