Mid-Carolina High School senior shot, killed in hunting incident

The Newberry County Coroner’s Office has identified a teenager who was killed in a hunting incident on Sunday evening.

Coroner Craig Newton said 18-year-old Kendall Lesher Williams, of Prosperity, was killed after sustaining a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The incident happened around 7 p.m. off of S.C. Highway 391 near Prosperity, the coroner said.

Newton said that Williams was a senior at Mid-Carolina High School.

The incident remains under investigation by the coroner’s office as well as the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources with the assistance of the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, Newton said.
