Columbia police have arrested a suspect in last week’s road-rage incident where a 60-year-old man was shot.

Joseph Christmas II, 39, turned himself into the Columbia Police Department, according to a news release from Chief Skip Holbrook.

The incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. last Thursday on the 2400 block of Millwood Avenue, near Gervais Street. Public Information Officer Jennifer Timmons said Christmas was a passenger in a burgundy 1990s-model Chevy pick-up truck with the words ‘Tree Works’ and a North Carolina phone number on its side. According to Timmons, the truck was driven by a woman, who the Columbia Police Department is trying to locate.

Timmons said Christmas allegedly argued with the victim, who was in a separate vehicle. Christmas shot the victim in the wrist, Holbrook said in the release.

Timmons said the victim’s injuries weren’t life threatening, and he was treated and released from a local hospital.

Christmas was charged with attempted murder, unlawful carry of a pistol, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, said Timmons, who added Christmas was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he was denied bond.
