Orangeburg County woman allegedly hit child in front of officers
An Orangeburg County woman was charged Saturday after she allegedly struck a 9-year-old child in front of officers who were responding to the child’s call claiming to have been assaulted, officials said.
Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said 22-year-old Dynasty Bonaparte was charged with unlawful neglect of a child after deputies say they saw the Bonaparte allegedly strike the child.
Orangeburg County deputies were informed of the assault at a North Trail Road residence after 911 dispatch received a call Saturday at 10 a.m. from the victim alleging that Bonaparte punched her in the face on Friday, Ravenell said.
The child also told 911 dispatch that she feared she was going to be struck again, the sheriff said.
When deputies arrived at residence, Ravenell said they met with Bonaparte and told her that they were there in response to the child’s 911 call. Bonaparte became angry, Ravenell said, and then struck the child in the chest in front of the deputies.
Bonaparte was given a $5,000 personal recognizance bond during a hearing held Saturday, and the child was removed from the home and placed with a relative, Ravenell said.
