Pedestrian killed in Lexington County car accident
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on Bush River Road early Saturday morning, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.
The accident occurred at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday in the area of Bush River Road between I-20 and I-26, Corporal Sonny Collins said. Robert S. Johnson, the Chief Deputy Coroner for the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, wouldn’t identify the pedestrian because the investigation remains ongoing, but said the name would soon be made available.
Candace Peer, 24, was driving a 1997 Toyota, when she struck the pedestrian, Collins said. Because the pedestrian was in the road illegally at the time of the crash, Collins said that Peer wasn’t at fault.
Although the pedestrian was in the road illegally, Peer was separately charged with DUI, Collins said.
