Newberry coroner identifies man shot, killed at Halloween party

The Newberry County Coroner identified a Prosperity man who was shot and killed at a Halloween party early Sunday morning.

Richard Richshon Devell Sims, 24, was shot in the chest at approximately 2:55 a.m. near the Drayton Street Center in Newberry, Coroner Craig Newton said, with Chief Deputy Coroner Lewis Lee adding that Sims died at the scene because of a gunshot wound.

The coroner’s office declined to say how many times Sims was shot, as the Newberry Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting.
