Kershaw County deputies make two quick arrests in home burglary
Kershaw County deputies were able to make two quick arrests after a victim’s in-home surveillance system captured the two suspects stealing a TV and two computers from the residence, officials said.
Sheriff Jim Matthews said 25-year-old Westley Mathis and 24-year-old Tyler Griham were both taken into custody in connection to the investigation.
Matthews said on Tuesday evening, deputies were dispatched to a hom on Hun Road in Lugoff in reference to a burglary. When deputies arrived, Matthews said the homeowner informed them that a TV and two computers had been taken from the home.
Deputies were able to identify one of the suspects as Mathis after the homeowner showed the deputies footage from the home’s surveillance footage. Deputies then went to Mathis’ home and took him into custody, while further investigation of Mathis’ home revealed a quantity of Xanax pills for which Mathis did not have a prescription.
Deputies located Griham on Wednesday afternoon on Fort Jackson Boulevard while he was in possession of the stolen TV and computers, Matthews said.
Mathis has been charged with first-degree burglary and possession of schedule IV substances, while Griham has been charged with receiving stolen goods over $2,000, Matthews said.
Both men have been transported to the Kershaw County Detention Center, where they will remain pending a bond hearing Thursday.
