A Coastal Carolina University student from Blythewood was shot and killed in an apartment near the university’s campus in Conway Wednesday night.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick tells local media outlets that 21-year-old Craig Gerald Gray Jr. was shot about 7 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex where mainly students live. University Suites is a townhouse complex within walking distance of both Coastal Carolina and Horry-Georgetown Technical College.
Gray was a sophomore majoring in computer sciences. Coastal Carolina is offering counseling services to students. The school issued an alert Wednesday night asking that students stay inside after a blue pickup truck was seen leaving the area. No arrests have been reported. Police say there were few witnesses and are asking for the public’s help in finding whoever shot the student.
