Orangeburg man charged with murder following a weekend shooting that killed a man

An Orangeburg man was charged with murder Monday after a weekend shooting left one dead, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Green, 51, allegedly shot a 48-year-old man in the chest once during an argument that occurred at a Belleville Rd. residence, said Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.

“Apparently there was a brief argument between two men when one of them pulled out a handgun and shot the other in the chest,” Ravenell said in a statement. “We have a suspect in custody and a warrant has already been obtained for him.”

According to Orangeburg County Public Information Officer Richard Walker, witnesses said they heard arguing only moments before a gun shot. Walker said they found the victim laying on the dining room floor.

Green’s set to be arraigned on Tuesday, said Ravenell, adding that a motive hasn’t been determined and the investigation’s ongoing.
