One dead, another hospitalized following shooting at Richland County gas station

One person is dead and another is injured following a shooting on Sunday night, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

Just before 9 p.m., Richland County deputies responded to a shots fired call at the Spinx Gas Station at101 Lee Rd., near the intersection with Hard Scrabble Rd., said Public Information Officer & Community Liaison Curtis Wilson. One person was shot in the upper body and died and another was taken to an area hospital after being beaten in an altercation, Wilson said.

The men were seated inside of a vehicle parked behind the Spinx Gas Station, when two black men walked up to the vehicle and an altercation took place, said Wilson, who didn’t know what led to the physical fight. The driver of the vehicle was shot and the passenger was beaten with an object, according to Wilson, who said the passenger’s condition is unknown.

Wilson said the suspects in the incident fled the scene and are at large, as the investigation is ongoing.
