Rachel Naomi Peters was shot to death in her home Sunday morning. On Tuesday, Lexington County authorities charged her estranged husband with murder, Sheriff Jay Koon said in a news release.

Sean Patrick Peters, 37, was taken into custody on Sunday at Ms. Peters’ home on the 4200 block of Greenwood Drive in West Columbia. He surrended to deputies responding to a 911 call “after a short negotiation,” Koon said.

At the time of his arrest, Peters was charged on existing unrelated warrants for criminal sexual conduct with a minor, Koon said.

Peters now stands charged with murder, 2 counts of kidnapping, and 1 count each of burglary-first degree and the possession of a weapon during a violent crime - charges related to the weekend fatal shooting - and, 3 counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor-first degree.

He was being held at the Lexington County Detention Center Tuesday evening.

Investigations into the fatal shooting and earlier crimes continue, Koon said. Anyone with information about the cases should contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at 803-785-2400 or Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC. Anonymous tips can be submitted at www.LexingtonSheriff.com
