Columbia police to up traffic enforcement Friday night

The Columbia police traffic safety unit plans increased enforcement efforts starting Friday night, police chief Skip Holbrook said in a news release.

As part of this effort, a traffic safety checkpoint will be erected in the city somewhere with a history of speeding and driving under the influence incidents.

All drivers entering a checkpoint must produce a valid drivers license and will be assessed for impairment. Seat belt use and the use of proper child restraints, when appropriate, also will be assessed.
