Tammy Lawhorne Bedenbaugh told police that her ex-husband broke into her South Congaree home on October 27, tied her up and raped her. South Congaree police say she lied and they have sworn out a warrant for her arrest.

An investigation of Bedenbaugh’s account found that her husband, a truck driver, was “across the country, working, during the time of the alleged incident and nowhere close to South Carolina,” a news release from the police stated. In addition, the man’s employer and documentation back up his alibi, they said.

Bedenbaugh no longer lives in South Congaree. Local authorities believe she may have moved to the Beaufort area. She faces a felony charge of filing a false police report when she is apprehended.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Bedenbaugh, you’re asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC, text CRIMES (274637) and mark the beginning of the message with “TIPSC” followed by the tip information, or log onto www.midlandscrimestoppers.com and click on the red “Submit a tip” tab.
