North Columbia targeted for extra traffic enforcement

The Columbia Police traffic unit announced it is upping its attention to the north Columbia area starting Friday night. Enhanced enforcement by Columbia Police and the SC Highway Patrol means there will be more cars patrolling and traffic safety check points set up in the area.

In announcing the enforcement effort, Columbia police chief Skip Holbrook said areas are targeted because of a history of speeding, DUI, and other violations.

Drivers entering a traffic safety checkpoint must stop. They will be checked for a valid drivers license, impaired driving, proper seat belt use and use of child restraints as appropriate.
