Former day care worker allegedly struck 18-month-old

A former day care worker was arrested by the Richland County Sheriff's Department for striking an 18-month-old child.

Barbara Priester, 51, was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child, said Richland County public information liaison Sgt. Brittany Scott. The incident took place at Kinder Academy Day Care, at 302 S Beltline Blvd., on Feb. 10, said Scott, adding it was observed on video surveillance.

Priester allegedly hit an 18-month-old child in the face, according to Scott, who said the child didn’t receive any injuries.

Priester was fired and arrested after turning herself into police Monday.
