A 26-year-old Gilbert man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Thursday after a May 2015 hit-and-run accident that killed motorcyclist John Seymour, Lexington Solicitor Donnie Myers said in a news release. .

After he was arrested, Nicholas Slater Shealy admitted that he was driving the SUV that collided with the 38-year-old Lexington man on May 10 at the intersection of West Main Street and Barr Road in Lexington, Myers said.

Witnesses told investigators that the SUV driver stopped following the accident but then left the scene after he was asked to call 9-1-1. Shealy was identified through evidence left at the accident site. There was no evidence that Shealy “was under the influence,” Myers added.
