Man arrested for beating woman to death in Barnwell

A Barnwell man was arrested on Saturday by SLED and was charged with murder in the beating death of a woman.

Phillip Hay, 43, was charged with murder, a felony that can include the punishment of death or a minimum of 30 years to life in prison, said SLED media liaison Thom Berry.

The police report stated Hay repeatedly assualted Janice Jamison with his fists, causing her death in a trailer.

Hay was booked at the Barnwell County Detention Center, according to Berry, adding Hay will be prosecuted by the Second Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
