Hartsville children test positive for drugs
S.C. Law Enforcement Division arrested two parents after an investigation found two young children in their care tested positive for drugs.
SLED investigated the case at the request of the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office after drug screens for a 1-year-old child and a two-month-old child came back positive.
SLED charged Malinda LaShawn Phillips, 22, and Sharkill Robinson, 33, both of Hartsville, each with two counts of unlawful neglect of a child. Each count carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine.
Arrest warrants did not state which drugs the children were screened for, though DSCO also charged the pair with manufacture, distribution, purchase or possession with intent to sell LSD and cocaine.
Phillips and Robinson were arrested Monday and booked into the Darlington County Detention Center.
