A teenager was charged with arson after a Saturday fire at a Lexington County house.

John Wiley, 17, is charged with third degree arson, said Lexington public liaison Capt. Adam Myrick, adding the resident of Ladson in Berkeley County willfully and maliciously set a fire that caused extensive damage to a home in the 100 block of Scoggins Drive in Lexington.

“Through our investigation, we determined the suspect was igniting a flammable body spray in the carport,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in a statement. “The investigation is still open and more charges are expected.”

Koon said Wiley was arrested Saturday at the scene of the fire. He was released from the Lexington County Detention Center on $9,000 bond.

The Lexington County Fire Service estimated the fire caused $60,000 in damages after flames spread from the carport throughout the attic of the residence.
