Cristopher Rakel German, 25, of Hamer, SC, is going to federal prison for 2 1/2 years for assaulting with intent to rob a mail carrier in 2013, US attorney Bill Nettles said in a news release.

The female postal worker tried to deliver a package on August 16, 2013, to the home of one of German’s relatives. She left with the package after discovering that the person named on the package didn’t live at that address. In fact, the name was a made-up name, Nettles said.

German confronted her as she was walking away, demanded the package and shoved her while grabbing the marijuana-filled package when she refused to give it to him, Nettles said.
