Man fights for life after Friday night shooting in North Columbia

A 29-year-old man was hospitalized with a life-threatening bullet wound to the upper body Friday night following an attack at the Hammond Village Apartments, Columbia police chief Skip Holbrook said.

The man was standing outside the apartment complex around 9 p.m. when “occupants inside two vehicles, described by witnesses as a white Chevy Impala and a burgundy/red Chevy Avalanche fired shots at him,” Holbrook said.

Police investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting.
