Richland County Sheriff’s Department investigating shooting in north Columbia

A man was shot Monday afternoon in north Columbia and the suspect remains at large according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to a call at 2:30 p.m. and discovered a man had been shot on Linden Street, which is close to Eau Claire High School on Monticello Road, said public information liaison Sgt. Brittany Scott. The man was shot once in the lower body and was transported to an area hospital where he had surgery for non-life threatening injuries, said Sgt. Scott.

Sgt. Scott said the sheriff’s department doesn’t have a suspect in custody. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, but Sgt. Scott couldn’t say if this was an isolated incident.
