Suspect arrested for shooting man near Eau Claire High

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced it arrested the suspect in an April 11 shooting near Eau Claire High School.

The department’s Fugitive Task Force arrested Willie Wright, 37, around 8 a.m. Friday at the Glass Manor Motel, 5810 N. Main St., according to a news release from the department. Deputies charged him with attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and felon in possession of a firearm.

Wright allegedly shot a man in the lower body on the 4800 block of Linden Street, adjacent to Eau Claire High, according to the release. The victim was transported to Palmetto Health Richland with non-life threatening injuries.

The release stated investigators received a tip that led them to Wright, who was an acquaintance of the victim, and determined it was an isolated incident related to drug activity.

Wright was transported to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
