Driver who died in I-77 wreck identified

Officials identified a driver who caused a three vehicle wreck on Interstate 77 Tuesday morning and died from injuries.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Michael Christopher Jackson, 28, of Roundtable Court died from multiple blunt traumas.

Jackson was operating a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer southbound on I-77 near Bluff Road when he struck the sides of two vehicles then ran off the side of the road, where his vehicle overturned several times, according to State Troopers. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Watts said the wreck occurred at 8 a.m., and Richland County EMS transported Jackson to Palmetto Health Richland where he died at 9:50 a.m.

The wreck also injured the drivers of the other vehicles, Marvin Bail and Lauren Bradley.

The SC Highway Patrol continues to investigate this case.
