Two drivers jailed for excessive speeding in Kershaw County
Two men were arrested for excessive speeding by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit on April 21.
Willie J. Traynham, 37, and Angel G. Rosado, 21, were arrested after an officer determined that they were traveling at 134 mph and 124 mph respectively on I-20 in Kershaw County, said Sheriff Jim Matthews, adding both men were transported to the Kershaw County Detention Center where they posted bond and were later released.
“It is pretty apparent to everyone that very few people observe the posted speed limit on our interstates. The speed at which many people travel is frequently excessive, but these two men took excessive speeding to an extremely dangerous and reckless level,” Sheriff Matthews said in a released statement. “While our traffic officers are relatively lenient when it comes to speeding, what they encountered with these two men will always result in a trip to the jailhouse.”
Both men were issued citations for speeding more than 25 mph over the posted speed limit, and both stated they were traveling so fast to get home, Sheriff Matthews said. A DMV check revealed that Traynham, a Myrtle Beach resident, didn’t have a valid driver’s license and he was cited for that, as well. Rosado, who lives in Augusta, Ga., stated that he was active duty military.
