Man shot in upper body drives himself to hospital

Richland County deputies are searching for a suspect who reportedly shot and injured a victim early Tuesday morning.

Deputies responded to 127 Morninghill Drive, near the intersection of Bush River Road and Interstate 26, around 1 a.m. in reference to shots fired, according to Lt. Curtis Wilson.

Upon arrival, deputies were not able to locate a shooter or a victim. Moments later, they received information about a victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body at Palmetto Health Richland.

Deputies responded to the hospital and spoke to the victim, who said he was sitting in his vehicle at 127 Morninghill Drive when another vehicle pulled up behind him. He reported the suspect exited the vehicle, approached him, asked questions and then shot him in the upper body.

Wilson said the victim then drove himself to the hospital, about five miles away.

Deputies continue to investigate this case and search for a suspect.
