Officials identify baby who died following mother’s boyfriend alleged abuse

Officials identified a 1-year-old who died last week after alleged abuse at the hands of her mother’s boyfriend.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Aaliyah McNear, who was born April 6, 2015, died May 5 at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital after receiving injuries May 3.

McNear was at her home on Crofton Way in the care of her mother’s boyfriend, Todd Taylor, at the time of her injury, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office previously reported.

An autopsy indicated Aaliyah died from blunt head trauma.

Deputies arrested Taylor, 27, and charged him with homicide by child abuse.

Deputies continue to investigate this case.
