Saluda County deputy injured, suspect shot Friday afternoon
A Saluda County deputy was injured and a suspect shot during a law enforcement operation involving both Saluda and Lexington County deputies Friday afternoon.
Deputies from both jurisdictions were serving an arrest warrant on Old Lexington Road in Lexington County around 4 p.m. when the unnamed suspect tried to flee, the Saluda County Sheriff’s office said in a news release. No other details about the arrest warrant or the suspect were released.
Deputies opened fire on the suspect when he drove his vehicle “straight at officers” and struck a patrol car driven by one of the two Saluda County deputies involved in the operation.
Both the injured deputy and the suspect are being treated at a local hospital. The deputy is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, deputy TR Scofield of the Saluda County Sheriff’s Department said. Scofield would not discuss the nature of the deputy’s injuries. The condition of the suspect , who was struck by gunfire, was not known.
The State Law Enforcement Division has crime scene agents and regional agents on the scene, said spokesman Thom Berry.
“The involved deputies have been placed on administrative leave”, as SLED investigates the incident, the Saluda County Sheriff’s Department said.
