A 22-year-old Prosperity man was charged Thursday with sexual acts involving a 12-year-old girl.
Joshua Daniel Gregerson, 22, was charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim’s parents found a cellphone Gregerson had given the girl so he could contact her, Sheriff Lee Foster said in a news release. The phone contained graphic pictures and videos of Gregorson that had been sent to the victim, Foster said.
Investigators determined Gregerson committed sexual acts on the victim on two separate occasions, the sheriff said.

“Cellphones and the internet are opening our children to a vast world both positive and negative,” Foster said. “While there is a vast amount of information to be found there, there are also people who use this technology to prey on children for sex, to extort them for sex or money, or to blackmail them or their family.”
Gregerson and the victim knew each other through mutual acquaintances, according to the sheriff’s department.
Foster said additional charges are expected for Gregerson sending pornographic images and videos to the victim.
Gregerson was taken to the Newberry County Detention Center. He was denied bond.
