Woman shot during group fracas in Richland County

A Richland County woman was shot Wednesday during an altercation involving several other women, acccording to a sheriff’s department spokesman.

Richland County deputies are searching for a man they say shot the victim Wednesday afternoon on Highwood Court in the St. Andrews area of Columbia. Authorities were sent there after a report of shots fired at that location at 12:15 p.m., sheriff's spokesman Lt. Curtis Wilson said.

Investigators believe that two groups of women had an altercation there, and one woman pulled a gun. That woman put the gun down, but a man picked it up and started firing, Wilson said.

One woman was struck in the lower body, Wilson said. Her injuries were not life-threatening.
