Saturday morning accident claims Columbia man’s life

A 32-year-old Columbia man died Saturday afternoon after an early morning accident.

Javarius Cornelius Simmons of Dumont Street in Columbia succumbed to injuries sustained around 6:25 a.m. Saturday when his vehicle ran off I-77, overturned and hit several trees, Richland County coroner Gary Watts said in a news release.

The single vehicle accident happened near the Fort Jackson exit on southbound side of I-77.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
