KERSHAW COUNTY, SC Kershaw County deputies arrested a man Friday on charges stemming from the armed robbery of a Kangaroo Express in East Camden and a home invasion in Cassatt.

Kaycee Davante White, 19, is facing charges for kidnapping, armed robbery, 1st degree burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, possession of a sawed-off shotgun and resisting arrest.

The gas station robbery happened shortly after 2 a.m. on May 16, according to a news release from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said White entered the business with a sawed-off 12 gauge shotgun and robbed a female clerk of an undisclosed amount of money. He left the scene on foot and then got into a vehicle he had parked nearby.

Three days later, White entered a home on Drakeford Road in Cassatt, and used the same shotgun to demand money and weapons, according to the sheriff’s office. One of the people in the home got a hold of a handgun and forced White outside at gunpoint.

Another person living on the property then spotted White hiding in the bushes waiting for his ride, officials said. That person fired several shots in White’s direction, causing him to flee the scene on foot.

The sheriff’s office bloodhound tracking team followed White’s trail for about two miles.

“White became more brazen as he continued his crime spree, and his arrest was our top priority,” Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said.

Investigators at the Camden Police Department were working a similar home invasion case from April 27, the sheriff said. The sheriff’s office and police department started working together to capture White.

Deputies caught up with White at a mobile home park in Shepard Acres on Friday, following a foot chase and a struggle. They also seized a sawed-off 12 gauge shotgun and clothing that investigators believe he wore during the gas station robbery.

White confessed to the robbery and home invasions during an interview with a city investigator and a sheriff’s office investigator, according to the release. He remains in the Kershaw County Detention Center after a magistrate denied bond.
