Man charged with DUI after four-vehicle wreck in Lexington County

A man was charged with drunk driving after a four-vehicle wreck on Interstate 26 on Tuesday night.

Duncan Harps, 24, was charged with driving under the influence, simple possession of marijuana, and open container, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said Harps was traveling eastbound on I-26 near Piney Grove Road just after 11:30 p.m. when he struck three other vehicles, causing two of them to overturn.

Harps was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck one vehicle in the rear, causing it to go off the right side of the road, hit a concrete wall, and overturn, Southern said. He then sideswiped a second vehicle, which went off the left side of the road, struck the concrete median wall, and also overturned. Harps then bounced off the left wall himself, then struck a third vehicle, Southern said.

Officials said the number of occupants and whether or not they were injured was unknown Wednesday morning.

I-26 eastbound was closed for about 45 minutes.
