1 dead in shooting in Myrtle Beach as holiday weekend begins
Authorities are investigating after a man was shot and killed at a downtown Myrtle Beach motel as the Memorial Day holiday weekend gears up.
Police say the victim died at a hospital following the 2:30 a.m. Friday shooting at The Fountainbleau Inn on Flagg Street near 7th Avenue North. The man was identified as Pierre Allen, 23, of Andrews.
Another person was shot and wounded at the same motel during the Memorial Day weekend two years ago.
Violence in 2014 left three dead and seven wounded and resulted in officials adding safety procedures for the weekend during which the Atlantic Beach Bikefest is held.
Extra law officers, sidewalk barricades and a 23-mile loop to control traffic will be in effect again this weekend. Police did not immediately say if they thought the Friday shooting was related to the biker rally.
