1 hurt in shooting during Bikefest at Myrtle Beach; suspect in custody

Police say they have a suspect in custody following a shooting at the Holiday Sands North hotel at 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

The victim was taken to a hospital, but his condition was unknown Sunday.

Police haven’t released information describing how the event took place, but Michael Brown, a vacationer in town for the Atlantic Beach Bikefest, said he was under the front awning of the hotel at the time of the incident.

“I was just sitting here and (a) bullet almost hit me, so thank God I’m here,” he said.

Brown said he heard four shots, and said the victim was shot twice in the back while running away from the shooter.

“He was running and the guy was firing at him,” he said. “I was looking to get out of the way, so I ran too.”

Brown said he had heard that the two men were arguing, but said he didn’t know either of them.

Police say they will release more information when the investigation is complete.
