Rise Bakeshop in Five Points burgled over weekend
A popular bakery and restaurant in Five Points was burgled late Saturday night.
Two people entered Rise Gourmet Goods and Bakeshop at 11:30 p.m. and stole money, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said no one was at the shop at the time of the incident.
Police said the burglers also broke into a nearby shed, but that at the time of reporting the burglary to law enforcement, the victim had not found anything stolen from the shed.
The bakery opened not long ago when star New York City chef and former Columbia resident Sarah Simmons came back home and set up shop on Harden Street. Simmons teamed up with former Oak Table restaurant pastry chef Charley Scruggs to bring the shop to life.
Investigators urge anyone with information about the incident to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
