Tip led police to stabbing, arson suspect
Columbia police said a tip led to the arrest of a suspect in who allegedly stabbed three people then set their house on fire.
Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said a Crimestoppers tip led the to the arrest of Herbert Davon Oree.
CPD’s Fuitive Team, Richland County deputies and SC Law Enforcement Division agents located Oree in a room at the Economy Inn near Broad River Road close to the intersection with Interstate 20 Thursday night.
Police believe Oree, 20, broke into a home on the 1700 block of Bailey Street around 3 a.m. on May 22, stabbed three people then set part of the home’s interior on fire, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
The flames were quickly extinguished, and the victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment for stab wounds. One victim remains hospitalized.
Investigators continue to search for a motive, though they believe the incident was isolated and the victims knew Oree.
Oree is charged with three counts of attempted murder, first degree burglary, third degree arson and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He was booked into Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
