Sumter jewelry store robbed at gunpoint

Two men with a handgun robbed the Jewelry Wholesale and four employees on Friday afternoon, Sumter Police said in a news release.

One of the suspects, Michael D. Knowles, 33, of Mayesville was arrested Friday night in Richland County.

Rondrick Shequile Mearite, 22, and Bradley Devon Brown, 21, both of Dillon were still being sought Friday night.

The two armed men entered the store at 41 E. Wesmark Blvd in Sumter and took an undetermined amount of jewelry as well as employee cell phones, wallets and purses, the police said.

They then fled. Brown is believed to have been the get-away driver.

Knowles was charged with armed robbery, and four counts of kidnapping and conspiracy. Knowles was being held at the Sumter-lee Regional Detention Center.
