Police: Argument turns to deadly stabbing Friday night
A man stabbed two men Friday night, killing one of them, Columbia police say.
Benjamin Jerome Goodwin, 41, is charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon while committing a violent crime in connection with two stabbings that occurred at a home in the 100 block of Hillcrest Drive Friday night.
Police say Goodwin argued with the two victims and then stabbed them both multiple times. One of the victims, Richard Thomas, 54, of Hillcrest Avenue, died at the scene of stab wounds he received in the incident, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said in a news release.
The other victim ran to a neighbor’s house, police say.
Goodwin was arrested at the Hillcrest Drive home and is being held at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
