Deputies investigating drive-by shooting near high school

Richland County deputies are trying to learn more about the circumstances surrounding a Wednesday night drive-by shooting near a high school.

Deputies responded to reports of gunshots at the corner of Haymarket and Rushmore Roads near Columbia High School around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies determined that two victims were in a vehicle in the area when another vehicle passed by in the opposite direction. Gunshots then rang out from the second vehicle toward the victims, according to Lt. Curtis Wilson with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Gunshots shattered the rear windows of the victim’s vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Wilson said investigators continue to question people who were in the area at the time of the shooting.
