Man captured after family says he killed 3-year-old in hit-and-run

The man accused of killing his 3-year-old nephew in a hit-and-run Monday was caught early Wednesday morning.

Corey Kitt, 36, of Hopkins, was captured in the Irmo area at about 1 a.m., Lance Cpl. David Jones with the S.C. Highway Patrol said.

Family said Kitt ran over his nephew, Kevin “KJ” Kitt, at the boy’s home on Davis Road in Hopkins, then left the scene.

Corey Kitt was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He has been charged with hit and run, being a habitual traffic offender and driving under suspension, according to the jail’s website.

Julia Hadley, Corey Kitt’s sister and the victim’s aunt, said she was thankful the Highway Patrol stayed on top of the investigation.

“I’m a ball of emotion,” she said. “I’m relieved. We’ve got justice for our nephew.”

A judge denied Corey Kitt bond later in the day.
